History of the Kennel
SOMERRI KENNELS began in 1961, when our first Elkhound was bought. She was a great pet and we had a litter of puppies from her. But talking to Elkhound breeders we decided that if we wanted to show and breed the best Elkhounds we needed to look further. In May of 1963, Bea's Lady Jade came home to our house. After traveling the east coast to find majors, Jade became our first champion. Over the years with a lot of talking to other breeders and seeing other males we bred Jade to some of the best Elkhounds of that time. Two of Jade's sons were hound group placing dogs, CH So Merri Mister Chips and CH Somerri Torsdags Barn. These two were line bred to half sisters and the distinctive SOMERRI line was created.
CH Somerri Kid Curry was one of our first big winners. He won the NJ regional specialty in 1982 and went on to a Hound Group 2nd.that day. One of his sons CH Dunharrow's Dust Buster was a Best In Show winner at Eastern Dog Club in Boston in Dec 1990.
